Acute hospitals must prioritise staff training in caring for dementia patients

Fine Gael Cork North Central Senator and the Party’s Seanad Spokesperson on Health, Colm Burke, today (Tuesday) expressed concern at the worrying gap in services for dementia patients in Irish hospitals. Senator Burke was speaking following the publication of the first national audit of dementia care services in acute hospitals carried out by researchers at UCC.

Pubs and nightclubs must refrain from irresponsible drinks promotions and improve security - Byrne

Fine Gael Dublin South Central TD, Catherine Byrne, has today (Tuesday) called on the pub and nightclub industry to act responsibly in their promotion of events to young people. Deputy Byrne’s call comes in the wake of an incident on Harcourt Street last night which left a number of young people injured.

Harris welcomes inclusion of children with ADHD in Long Term Illness Scheme

Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport (DTTAS)

The AAIU has published its Final Report into the fatal public transport accident that occurred at Cork Airport in February 2011. The AAIU recognises that this is a difficult time for those families who lost loved ones and the surviving passengers who suffered injuries in this tragic accident. Our deepest sympathies to all concerned.

Statement by the Minister for Justice, Equality & Defence, Alan Shatter, T.D., on penalty points

The Public Accounts Committee has a vital role to perform in our democracy. So too does An Garda Síochána. It is in no-one's interests that a situation be allowed to develop where either hampers the ability of the other to discharge their proper roles. I have no doubt that the vast majority of members of both have great respect for the work each of these institutions performs.

New €30 million research centre will act as an innovation hub – Collins

Fine Gael Cork North West TD, Aine Collins, has today welcomed the launch of a new €30 million research centre being led by the Tyndall National Institute in collaboration with University College Cork (UCC), Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) and Dublin City University (DCU). It’s hoped 200 new jobs can be generated by the centre over the next six years.
