Finance (Local Property Tax) (Amendment) Bill 2013

I thank the Minister of State, Deputy Fergus O'Dowd, for his presence. A number of key issues raised during the debate on the original Bill are being written into this legislation, mainly in regard to exemptions for the most vulnerable, deferrals for low income households and a reduction of rates for local authorities. I welcome these as improvements to the original Bill introduced last year.

Fine Gael Waterford Deputy, Paudie Coffey, has welcomed news of further progress for the Palliative Care Unit in Waterford Regional Hospital (WRH) under the HSE Service Plan for this year. Deputy Coffey has raised this matter with the Minister for Health, Dr. James Reilly TD, for the delivery of the vital service for the South East Region. The Palliative Care Unit has been promised for many years but it is now being progressed further.
