LEADER jobs announcement shows Govt is committed to supporting local businesses – McEntee

Fine Gael Meath East TD, Helen McEntee, has today (Friday) said the announcement by Meath Partnership that 103 new jobs have been created in Meath as a direct result of LEADER investment shows that the Government is committed to supporting local businesses. The jobs are being created in small and medium sized businesses being supported under the LEADER programme, which is co-funded by the Government and the EU.

“The LEADER programme is an excellent example of how the Government is investing directly in the local economy here in Meath. Small and medium businesses are vitally important for the local economy here in Meath. During the recent bye-election campaign I spoke about the need to support local enterprise, to boost innovation and job creation.

“The 103 new jobs created thanks to LEADER funding are across a range of sectors including agri-business, craft business, tourism and new technology. There is a huge amount of talent and skill locally in Co. Meath, and many businesses can benefit hugely from funding under the LEADER programme.

“According to Meath Partnership, an additional 18 jobs are due to be announced shortly from artisan food businesses engaged with the Royal County Food Hub. This is a very encouraging development in the context of the local agri-food sector. Meath farmers have a strong reputation in supplying high quality produce, and this is especially important as the artisan food sector continues to develop at a local level.

“The Government is committed to supporting local businesses through a range of initiatives aimed at improving access to credit, cutting red tape and boosting employment. The LEADER programme plays a unique role in this process, and has a proven track record in boosting local job creation.

“I would like to commend Meath Partnership on their work to date, and I am sure the LEADER programme will continue to contribute to further job creation throughout the year ahead.”
