McEntee urges strong turnout for 74th Oldcastle Show

24th June 2013 - Sarah Meade

Fine Gael Meath East TD, Helen McEntee, has encouraged members of the public to pay a visit to the 74th annual Oldcastle Agricultural Show, which will take place on Sunday, July 21st 2013. Deputy McEntee attended the launch of this year’s event with MEP Mairead McGuinness on Saturday (June 22nd).

“It’s incredible to think that the Oldcastle Agricultural Show is now in its 74th year. The show is a wonderful day out for all of the family, and its success over the last century is testament to the hard work and determination of local volunteers and activists.

“This year’s event will include the usual range of attractions including the judging of a host of animals, sheep shearing competitions and lots of other things to see like vintage machinery and trade stands. There is quite literally something to entertain every age group at the show, and I have no doubt that this year’s event will be as enjoyable as ever.

“The Oldcastle Show isn’t just popular for Meath locals; it attracts attendees from across the country. Cattle, sheep, goats, horses and dogs will be judged by independent judges from outside the region, ensuring there is no need for concern about local bias.

“The Show is a particularly enjoyable occasion for children, whether it’s to get up close to some farm animals, watch a sheep shearing competition or marvel at vintage farm machinery. I would encourage families from across Meath and further afield to consider popping along to this year’s event, which is sure to be a great day out. The success of the show depends on strong attendance figures, and I hope plenty of people will find the time to visit this year’s event on July 21st.”
