Minister commends Irish Paralympic Team on success at IPC European Championships

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring TD, has today (Saturday) extended his congratulations to the Irish Paralympic Team on their success at the Paralympic Athletics European Championships in Swansea.

Minister Ring said: ‘I want to congratulate all of the athletes who represented Ireland at the European Championships this week. It was a hugely successful performance by the team, bringing home five medals. Once again Jason and Mark have brought home double gold and I am delighted for Orla who added another silver.’

The Irish medal winners were Jason Smyth, gold medal in the T12 100m and 200m; Michael McKillop, gold medal in the T38 800m and 1500m and Orla Barry silver medal in the F57 discus.
Minister Ring added: ‘Ireland’s proud tradition in Paralympic sport has been further enhanced by the team’s performance this week and once again have proved to be excellent ambassadors for Ireland. The whole country is immensely proud of their achievements. I wish the team all the very best in their preparations for Rio 2016.’
