Mitchell welcomes new primary school for Goatstown/Stillorgan area
5th February 2015 - Fine Gael Press Office
Olivia Mitchell, Fine Gael TD for Dublin Rathdown, said the Government announcement of a new primary school for the Goatstown/ Stillorgan area is welcome news for parents.
“Every year, at this time of year, I get calls from distraught parents who have just discovered their local school has no room for their child.
“I recently informed the Minister for Education, Jan O’Sullivan, that Our Lady’s Grove on the Goatstown Road had almost four times more applicants than places available for new pupils in September 2015. So I am delighted to hear, that in recognition of the ever growing local demand, the catchment area from Goatstown to Stillorgan will be the location of one of the seven new schools announced by the Minister.
“The seven new schools will be in addition to the twenty new primary schools opened since 2011 and reflect the rapidly growing population of primary school age children. The process to determine the patronage of the Goatstown/Stillorgan school will commence later this year and construction will start next year.”
