Mulherin welcomes appointment of Prisa Technologies to assist with roll-out of high speed broadband

8th May 2013 - Deborah Sweeney

Fine Gael TD for Mayo, Michelle Mulherin, has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Communications, Pat Rabbitte TD, of the appointment of Prisa Technologies to assist in driving the design, planning and procurement of a State-led investment in high-speed broadband throughout Ireland.

“This announcement is a significant step forward on the road to providing high-speed broadband right across the country. Access to high-speed broadband is an essential requirement for businesses, education, health and government and, for too long now, we have been saddled with poor quality, slow internet access, with some areas in rural Ireland having no access at all.

“Minister Rabbitte has committed, through the National Broadband Plan, to deliver high-speed internet access to less densely populated areas and having Prisa Technologies on board will help drive this project forward. Given that the last Government failed miserably when it came to rolling out high-speed broadband, I am very pleased with the progress made so far on this project.

“The Department has already kick-started the process of mapping future broadband investment plans in Ireland. Prisa will assist in this process, which will be an important pre-requisite for State aids approval and will define the full extent of the State’s investment in broadband into the future.”
