New entrant will promote competition within the health insurance market
2nd July 2012 - Senator Jerry Buttimer
Fine Gael Cork South Central Deputy and Chair of Oireachtas Committee on Health & Children, Jerry Buttimer TD, has today (Monday) welcomed the arrival of GloHealth to the Irish private health insurance market.
Deputy Buttimer said the new entrant’s arrival will ensure increased competition for consumers which should ultimately drive prices down.
“News that a new entrant, GloHealth, is entering the Irish health insurance market is to be welcomed. The Government is committed to reforming how we pay for healthcare through Universal Health Insurance and by having more providers to choose from, better value for the consumer will be ensured.
“GloHealth is the fourth health insurance company now in the Irish market. Its arrival can only be good for the consumer and for the market as it offers choice, value and a rage of coverage options. It will also enhance competition within the market as rival companies fight to retain the customers they already have. They will also be forced to work even harder to attract new product users.
“This news comes at a time when people are struggling to keep their health insurance, with many opting to relinquish their cover. By having another player in the field, service provider options are increased, allowing people to shop around and to find a service that suits them at the right price. I wish GloHealth every success in the Irish market and look forward to the positive impact it will have on consumers and the health insurance market in Ireland.”
