Newlands Cross Fly-over will be of huge benefit to Naas

30th April 2013 - Senator Anthony Lawlor

30th April 2013

Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor, welcomes the announcement today (Tuesday) from Transport Minister Leo Varadkar that government contracts have been signed to remove the bottleneck at Newlands cross by constructing a fly-over. The Newlands Cross flyover will remove the only traffic lights between the south of the country and the Northern Ireland border and will be of huge benefit to people coming to and from Naas.

“This announcement is the first Public Private Partnership transport project since 2007. It signifies a move in the right direction for this country and thankfully for those in the Kildare area, will benefit commuters by easing the transport links to and from Dublin.

“It is also of huge significance for the Kerry Group facility, which was approved planning last week, as it is freeing up bottleknecks from all areas of the country, both North and South allowing easy access to those visiting the facility.

“In light of today’s announcement, I will now continue to press Minister Varadkar and Kildare County Council to proceed with the Osberstown Interchange and the Sallins By-Pass as soon as possible as these are the remaining infrastructural impediments to the town of Naas and ultimately the Kerry Group facility”.
