O’Donnell welcomes major €400m Limerick City investment across 3 key sites

11th February 2021 - Kieran O'Donnell, TD

A major development for Limerick across three key sites which will incorporate residential housing and a new medical facility is a welcome boost for the City, County and the Midwest region, a Fine Gael TD has said.

Limerick City TD Kieran O’Donnell said, “I wish to very much welcome this major €400m investment announcement today by Limerick City and County Council.

“This is another great news story for us here in Limerick City following yesterday’s go-ahead without delay for the entire Coonagh to Knockalisheen road to proceed to construction.

“This partnership investment initiative will see the construction of over 200 mixed use residential together with a new state of the art medical facility with over 150 plus beds.  It will also see the welcome creation of 400 jobs over the next 3 to 5 years.

“This €400m investment reinforces the absolute necessity for the Coonagh to Knockalisheen road to be completed when we see that one of the three key sites is along this route.

“Along this road on a 35 acre site, we will see the building of 108 mixed used houses together with the construction of a medical facility, incorporating over 150 beds. Furthermore, we will also see the provision of community facilities, including an eco-park and playground here.

“The two other key sites of Thomondgate and Speakers Corner on Hyde Road Park will see the building of 63 and 36 mixed used housing respectively.

“These projects will now proceed through the planning process and I hope their construction can get underway as quickly as possible.

“This €400m investment is a ringing endorsement of what we have to offer here in Limerick City and shows the strong strength of brand Limerick,” Deputy O’Donnell concluded.
