Cllr Brendan McCarthy
Brendan McCarthy contested the 2024 Local Election for Fine Gael in the Skibbereen electoral area – and was co-opted as a Councillor, replacing Noel O’Donovan, following his appointment to the Seanad.
Brendan was born and raised in Skibbereen, where he now lives with his wife Sandrine and four children, two in UCC and two in Skibbereen Community School. He is currently teaching principal of Union Hall National School.
Brendan is very involved in the local community. He was a member of Skibbereen Town Council from 2004 – 2014 and was twice Mayor of Skibbereen. He is Chairperson of Skibbereen Arts Festival. He has worked in his family’s business of pubs and restaurants in Skibbereen, Baltimore and Union Hall as well as more recently in Skibbereen and Schull Farmers Markets. He is also a musician.
Brendan is passionate about the Skibbereen and wants to work hard so that this special place continues to improve and be a better place to live, work, raise a family and visit.
