Cllr Colm O’Rourke
Cllr Colm O’Rourke – Leader of the Fine Gael Group, Dublin City Council
Born and raised in Cabra to parents from the area, Colm O’Rourke still lives locally and serves as a Fine Gael Councillor on Dublin City Council representing the Cabra–Glasnevin Local Electoral Area. His family roots in Cabra go back generations.
Colm was first elected in 2019 at the age of 28, becoming the youngest member of the Fine Gael group on the Council at the time. He was re-elected in 2024 with a significantly increased vote, more than doubling his vote. He continues to represent communities across Ashtown / Pelletstown, Cabra, Drumcondra, Glasnevin, Phibsborough and the Navan Road, as well as residents living within the Phoenix Park and parts of the inner city.
Before entering politics, Colm was involved in a range of local community and voluntary initiatives, becoming known as a strong advocate for residents and neighbourhood issues in Cabra and the surrounding areas.
Colm currently serves as Leader of the Fine Gael Group on Dublin City Council, coordinating the work of councillors across the city and helping shape the party’s approach to key policy and community issues affecting Dublin.
Colm is a strong voice for residents in City Hall and increasingly beyond, advocating for communities across Cabra, Glasnevin and the wider Dublin area.
As a councillor, Colm takes a strong interest in public policy and the long-term development of Dublin and the wider region. He regularly engages with Government departments, public agencies and community organisations on issues including housing, transport, economic development and the future growth of the city.
Alongside his work on the Council, Colm works in communications and public affairs within the Corporate Communications Unit of an organisation that supports communities and local agencies in their work to achieve social inclusion and strengthen community development. He also serves as a member of the National Council of the Public Relations Institute of Ireland and is a Peace Commissioner.
Since being elected, Colm has worked to progress a range of local improvements and community initiatives across Cabra and the wider Cabra–Glasnevin area. He founded Reilly’s Community Garden (Gairdín Pobail Uí Raghallaigh) together with a group of local residents from Ashtown / Pelletstown, Cabra, Phibsborough and neighbouring communities. Working with residents and council staff, he helped identify suitable land and supported the development of what is now a shared community amenity.
Colm has been the lead councillor progressing the Taking-In-Charge process for estates including Rathborne and Royal Canal Park in Ashtown / Pelletstown, working closely with residents and Dublin City Council to advance the transition of these developments from private management to council responsibility.
Colm regularly meets with residents, community groups and local organisations across the area and works closely with Dublin City Council officials to address local issues as they arise.
