Cllr Garry Murtagh
“A strong advocate for local communities & local issues”
Garry is in his 40s, and married to Lorraine; they have 2 children attending Moyne C.S. who are in Leaving & Junior Cert years. They live in Edenmore in the parish of Dromard.
Garry was first elected as a County Councillor in 2019, and re-elected in 2024; he was elected Cathaoirleach of the Council for the year 20025/26.
Garry worked in the construction industry for 20 years, until the recession struck. In 2011 he was fortunate enough to gain employment with Longford Community Resources Clg (LCRL), while completing a BA Degree in Community Development & Business Enterprise.
He now co-ordinates the Tus initiative in County Longford for LCRL, which supports an extensive range of community groups and individuals and helps to deliver vital services throughout the County, such as Village Enhancement Projects, Social Care and Charity Organisation Initiatives.
Garry is a Director of Leebeen Park, Chairperson of the Colmcille Area Development Group and an active volunteer with various local/charitable organisations. He has represented Longford & Colmcille’s on the field at all levels in the GAA. Since hanging up his boots, he is now a mentor to players of all ages.
