Electoral Area: Ashbourne

Meath County Council

Cllr Alan Tobin

Councillor Alan Tobin is a resident of Garden City in Ashbourne. He is married to Michelle and has two daughters. First elected in 2014, he has contested 3 local elections in the Ashbourne Municipal District.

Alan is employed as a retained firefighter in County Meath Fire & Rescue Service since February 2022.

He is also self-employed and has a Road Safety Authority approved training company called CPC Ireland. The company is dedicated to enhancing professional bus and truck driver safety and compliance.

Alan is passionate about environmental concerns and the climate crisis. In 2025, he completed a MSc. in Environmental Sustainability with University College Dublin.

Alan is a hardworking, community orientated public representative working 24/7 for his community. His work on public realm includes improvements in mobility and additional investment locally for footpaths, cycle-lanes, public transport, schools, crèches, playgrounds and a new skatepark. While these are commendable, more community facilities are needed as Ashbourne has grown rapidly over recent decades.

The municipal district includes Kentstown, where new homes and community facilities are being constructed, and Stamullen, where a new cemetery and playground are also being delivered. There are issues being addressed in rural areas including in Skryne, Rathfeigh, Ardcath, Clonalvy, Curragha, Lismullen and Kilbride. Priorities are around community initiatives, one off rural housing, the condition of roads & road safety, rural isolation and crime.

Alan is an advocate promoting the Hill of Tara and the Royal sites of Ireland which are being considered for World Heritage site status. This is essential for the future development of the area as a tourism hub along with nearby Brú na Boinne.

Alan’s main priority is the delivery of an 80-acre public park, decent affordable housing, the promotion of the Irish language, helping people with a disability and promoting age friendly services, additional crèche places and more amenities for young families to enjoy.

Alan has many years’ experience on boards and committees including the Irish Men’s Shed Association, Boyne Valley Tourism, County Meath Chamber, Ashbourne Youth Cafe, Kentstown Community Liaison Committee, Meath Heritage and Biodiversity forums and two schools – Ashbourne Community School and Ashbourne Educate Together National School.

Alan is the chairperson of Ashbourne Tidy Towns, secretary of Ashbourne Drama Society and is active with many other local groups that organise local events or help families and individuals in need of assistance.
