Cllr Declan Burgess
Declan Burgess is a Fine Gael Councillor in the Cashel-Tipperary Electoral Area, elected in May 2019, on his first attempt and re-elected to Tipperary County Council in June 2024 on the first count after increasing his vote. He has served as Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council 2024/25 and Cathaoirleach of Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel Municipal District 2023/24.
Declan is deeply rooted in the community, serving on numerous boards and committees with local clubs and organisations, including Cashel King Cormac’s GAA Club, Cashel Heritage & Development Trust, Halla na Feile, EU Charter of Rural Communities and Cashel St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee.
Since being elected to Tipperary County Council, he has been working hard in the areas of Housing, Health, Roads, Water, Planning and Community Development.
Declan is pragmatic and innovative in driving our local economy and supporting small businesses. As a County Councillor, he has forged an impressive reputation for hard work and holds regular advice clinics to provide an effective service to the people of the Cashel-Tipperary area.
As a County Councillor, Declan is focused on delivering real results for Tipperary. His priorities include promoting Cashel as a vibrant destination town, advancing affordable housing for the squeezed middle, and ensuring balanced regional and rural development. He is a strong advocate for greater investment in rural transport and roads, the long-overdue N24 Tipperary Town bypass, and the rollout of high-speed broadband across the county. Declan is also committed to supporting community and sporting initiatives and improving access to essential local health services.
