Michael Murphy

Local Election Candidate

Electoral Area: Clonmel

Tipperary Council

Michael Murphy

I represent the Clonmel Electoral Area on Tipperary County Council.

I first became involved in politics in 2008 when I joined the Fine Gael Party. In 2009, I was elected to South Tipperary County Council, at my first attempt. I also contested the 2011 General Election, and received 5,402 first preference votes. I was re-elected as a Councillor in 2014, and again in 2019, topping the poll.

Following the Local Elections in 2019, I was elected as Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council, for 2019-20, with the unanimous support of all 40 members.

A businessman by profession, I am a senior executive with the Enfer Group. I have proven myself in key areas involved with running a successful business. The Enfer Group were proud sponsors of Tipperary GAA from 2002 till 2010 and I was delighted to be associated with the great successes of the Tipperary teams during that period, particularly the All Ireland victory of our senior hurlers 2010.

I am committed to my role as a public representative and have been working extremely hard in my efforts to assist the people of Tipperary in their dealings with local government. I am acutely aware of the pressures currently affecting businesses and industry in the constituency and am to the fore in devising strategies that will enable them to compete efficiently in the current environment.
