Cllr Ben Ward

Electoral Area: Tullow

Carlow County Council

Cllr Ben Ward

Ben was elected in June 2024, representing the Tullow electoral area. He went to primary school in Ballon where he played GAA and soccer for many years. He then attended Tullow community school where his interest in politics and the local community began. Ben is currently completing his studies in Economics, Politics, and Philosophy in UCD.

Tullow needs a fresh and energetic voice who’s going to be proactive in trying to make our community a better place for people to live, work, and own businesses in. Ben put himself forward to represent the people and the community that he’s grown up around his whole life. Ben is passionate about affecting positive change in our area through pragmatic politics. Being a young person, he wants to be a voice for young people on the council and campaign for issues that affect young people.

The family business, Wards Greengrocer and Health store, has been trading in the square in Tullow for over 25 years now. Ben understands the challenges and the opportunities that small businesses can have for our community, and wants to support and incentivise business in our area.

“I’m passionate about making our community a better place by improving our public facilities and local infrastructure, providing better recreational and exercise amenities, and tackling anti-social behaviour to make stronger, safer communities.”
