John was elected as a Member of Seanad Éireann recently, and as such, ceases to be a Councillor; a replacement will be co-opted in due course.
John is a dynamic, sharp, effective and energetic public representative. He was first elected to Waterford City Council in 2009 at the age of 21 and was re-elected to the amalgamated Waterford City & County Council in 2014 & 2019. He has served as Mayor on Waterford on two occasions (2013/14 & 2015/16) & is a former Chairman of the South East Regional Authority (2013).
He has vast experience across many sectors & has served as a member/director of several boards including – Waterford Airport, Theatre Royal, Waterford Sports Partnership, Waterford cultural Quarter & Manor of St. John Youth Services. Until his election to Séanad Éireann he was Chairman of the Planning Strategic Policy Committee & he is a former member of both the Transportation & Economic Development SPC.
He contested the 2020 General Election, receiving the fourth highest 1st preference votes in the 4 seat Waterford Constituency, just missing out on a seat; finishing 5th. He is looking forward to being Fine Gael’s national representative for ‘All of Waterford’.
