8th July 2011 - Senator Anthony Lawlor

Question 220: To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the current status of the building project at a school (details supplied) in County Kildare; when funding for the commencement of building works at the school will become available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [Ref. Number: 18325/11]

Details: St David’s National School Naas, Co. Kildare

Response by Minister Ruairí Quinn (Department of Education and Skills): 5th July 2011

The school to which the Deputy refers has applied to my Department for large scale capital funding for a new school. The application has been assessed in accordance with the published prioritisation criteria for large scale building projects and assigned a Band 2 rating.

Information in respect of the current school building programme along with all assessed applications for major capital works, including the project referred to by the Deputy, is available on the Department’s website at

All large scale building projects, including this project, from initial design stage through to construction phase are being progressed in the context of my Department’s multi-annual School Building and Modernisation Programme and the available financial resources. However, in light of current competing demands on the capital budget of my Department, it is not possible to give an indicative timeframe for the progression of the project at this time.
