Revenue must extend Local Property Tax deadline – Ó Muirí
12th November 2025 - Naoise Ó Muirí TD
Revenue must recognise the continuous difficulties homeowners are experiencing submitting their Local Property Tax (LPT) returns and extend the deadline beyond today, a Fine Gael TD has said.
Deputy Naoise Ó Muirí said: “Over recent days, I have heard from a number of worried constituents that have been unable to submit their LPT return, due to technical issues with Revenue’s online portal.
“While it was positive to see the deadline extended to today (Wednesday), we need to see a longer extension to ensure everyone is given a fair opportunity to pay their LPT.
“Last week, technical issues were locking many homeowners out of the portal, preventing them from paying their LPT. Many people have reported issues when entering banking details for online payment.
“While technical issues can happen, the onus is on Revenue to extend the payment deadline and ensure their systems are properly resourced with help at hand.
“Revenue staff are working hard to help people, but with increased demands the phone lines are under pressure and this demand will only increase today with the deadline set for 5:30pm.
“No homeowner should be unfairly penalised as a result of technical issues, we need to see a further extension of the deadline”, concluded Deputy Ó Muirí.
