Section 39 workers pay deal must signal shift in how healthcare workers are valued – Roche
6th May 2025 - Pete Roche TD
Section 39 pay deal is a significant step towards recognising the important role of healthcare workers, a Fine Gael Deputy has said.
Deputy Pete Roche, Fine Gael spokesperson on Mental Health, said that the vote from Section 39 workers to accept the pay deal will come as a relief for so many healthcare workers across the country.
“I’m delighted to see the pay deal for Section 39 workers has been accepted, and I’m particularly pleased for those serving in the Mental Health sector. This is a long-overdue and very necessary move that acknowledges the critical role these workers play in supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.
“Section 39 organisations, and the dedicated staff within them, provide frontline mental health services that are vital to the well-being of countless individuals and families. For too long, their essential work has gone under-recognised and under-rewarded.
“This pay deal marks a significant step toward fairness and equity, and it must signal a broader shift in how we value those who work in community-based and voluntary services.
“I commend all those who campaigned tirelessly for this outcome, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on staff retention, service quality, and ultimately, the people who depend on these supports every day.
“As we mark Mental Health Awareness Month this May, I want to reaffirm his unwavering commitment to promoting open conversations, improving access to services, and reducing stigma across our communities.
“Mental health is just as important as physical health. Let this month be a reminder that no one should have to face their struggles alone, help is available, and healing is possible. Together, we can build a society that values mental wellbeing and ensures support for all who need it”, concluded Deputy Roche.
