Fine Gael’s Seanad spokesperson on Justice and Equality, Senator Martin Conway, has expressed condolences to the family of heroic Garda Colm Horkan, who was shot dead in Roscommon last night.
Senator Conway said: “This brutal tragedy has shocked the nation. We are all thinking of Detective Garda Horkan’s family, relations, friends and colleagues at this desperately sad time.
“Every single day of the year, gardaí serve their community and protect the State. It is deeply saddening that another member of the force has been killed in the line of duty.
“We offer our support to all members of An Garda Síochána at this time. They are stalwarts of every single community across the country.
“Our thoughts are especially with members of the force in Castlerea today as they try to come to terms with the loss of a colleague and friend who was brutally killed in the course of his work.
“I have contacted Commissioner Harris this morning to offer my condolences to the entire force at this tragic time.
“The loss in An Garda Síochána is immeasurable today. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
