Threats against journalist are evil and sinister – Richmond
Let journalism and the truth win out over callous criminals
5th February 2021 - Neale Richmond, TD
Fine Gael TD Neale Richmond has strongly condemned the threats issued against a journalist and his team who produced a BBC Panorama documentary on the Kinahan cartel and their links to professional boxing.
“This is awful news and my thoughts are with the BBC journalist and colleagues that have been targeted by these dangerous elements. The threats against them are evil and sinister and come from callous criminals.
“These journalists did a major service to public broadcasting this week. They should be commended for their work, not threatened.
“We in Ireland know too well the sort of elements that surround Daniel Kinahan and such threats need to be taken with the utmost seriousness. We also know too well in this country the threats that journalists face and what criminals will do to stop them doing their work.
“We should always back and support impartial journalism no matter what the spotlight focuses on. Let journalism and the truth win out against the Kinahan cartel. Journalists are doing their job and exposing them every day.
“The world of boxing needs to take note of what is really happening. Threats and thuggery can’t be allowed to win,” Deputy Richmond concluded.
