Twitter accessibility team is vital for inclusivity – Conway
8th November 2022 - Senator Martin Conway
Twitter’s Accessibility Experience Team are integral in delivering a user-friendly experience to people with a disability and must be maintained, a Fine Gael Senator has said.
Member of Joint Oireachtas Committee on Disability matters, Senator Martin Conway, is calling on Twitter to prioritise this team and recognise the significance of the work they do.
Senator Conway said, “We are lucky enough to live in a world where the development of and access to digital devices has led to endless possibilities. Accessibility teams are pivotal to empowering those with disabilities by ensuring they have the proper tools to participate.
“Around 15% of the global population have some form of disability. They should be able to access content just as easily as anyone else.
“This team supports those with disabilities by curating features such as voice Tweets, high contrast buttons, captions and much more.
“Social media platforms have a duty to ensure their platforms are fully accessible and Twitter should lead the way in the accessibility revolution.
“My thoughts are with those who may have received bad news this week that they have lost their job,” concluded Senator Conway.
