100 new jobs for Shannon – Breen
19th January 2015 - Fine Gael Press Office
Fine Gael Clare TD and Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, Pat Breen, has today (Monday) welcomed the announcement of 100 new jobs for Shannon with the opening of the the European manufacturing facility of AMAX at Western Business Park Shannon.
“Today is yet another important milestone for the Shannon region with the announcement by AMAX of the creation of 100 new jobs over the next five years at its new European manufacturing facility in Western Business Park.
“These jobs will be crucial to the ongoing economic recovery of Shannon and things are looking up for wider Clare area with Shannon Airport and tourism figures going from strength to strength.
“AMAX is a world leading manufacturer of dynamic Data Centre & Cloud, custom Server Appliance and High Performance Computing (HPC) solutions. This is their first European manufacturing facility and it shows the strength of the Irish economic recovery and the calibre of the workplace in Clare and Limerick, that they chose to locate here.
“There is a perception out there that the economic recovery is only happening in Dublin. This is not actually true. Recent Enterprise Ireland (EI) figures showed that 70% of the extra EI jobs created in 2014 were outside Dublin. Since the launch of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs in February 2012, the live register has fallen by 20% in Clare. These are more than just meaningless statistics. They are people who are back in the work place, getting their lives back on track, maybe even returning from emigration and in turn helping their local economies with their increased earnings. The Government has a sustainable plan to reduce the tax on work and ensure that people have a little more in their pockets, which in turn, stimulates the economy to continue growing.”
