9th June 2013 - Simon Harris TD
Wicklow Fine Gael TD & former Chair of County Wicklow’s Policing Committee, Simon Harris, has welcomed the roll out of the Garda Bray Text Alert System.
Deputy Harris stated that ‘This system provides an opportunity for Neighbourhood Watch Schemes to assist the Gardai in ensuring that North Wicklow remains a safe place in which to live. It also allows Gardai to more effectively police the area and also allows them to alert other groups in the area to the prospective problems. This will allow for more effective and efficient use of resources while also the prospective problems. This will allow for more effective and efficient use of resources while also empowering local communities in protecting their homes and families.
‘The system works by allowing the texter to forward details to the Garda Communications Room who will contact the texter to verify the information received. It is important that individual communities have an active hand in developing and supporting their area and ensuring that the area remain a safe environment.
‘I hope that this system is widely engaged with and that the initial positive reaction by members of the public is built on so as to ensure that this resource is something that the entire community of Bray, Greystones and North Wicklow gain significant benefit from.
‘I want to congratulate the Gardai on this innovative programme and to encourage them to work to roll out this programme in additional areas across County Wicklow and across Ireland.’
