Obama Visit to County Wicklow a huge endorsement of Wicklow’s tourism product for US market
20th June 2013 - Simon Harris TD
Wicklow Fine Gael TD, Simon Harris, has described the visit of US First Lady Michelle Obama and her family to Wicklow as a “huge endorsement of Wicklow’s tourism product and a great help in promoting County Wicklow as a place to visit for US tourists.”
“It was a great honour for County Wicklow that the only county the Obama’s chose to visit outside our capital was Wicklow. This trip has highlighted Glendalough and Wicklow as a tourist location to a very large tourism audience. The visit will show millions of Americans some of the beautiful scenery that the Garden County has to offer and will hopefully encourage them to pay their own visit to our county,” said Deputy Harris.
“As a former member of the Board of Wicklow Tourism I recognise the major economic benefits to our county and so many businesses within it of tourism. I will now be talking to the Minister for Tourism and the relevant State Agencies to ensure that our county gets the maximum exposure in any tourism marketing products being sent to the US market,” stated Deputy Harris.
“I want to commend and congratulate all those involved in helping facilitate such a great visit for Michelle Obama and her family to our county. You did us all proud,” concluded Deputy Harris.
