Deputy Conlan welcomes additional €1.4 million for Monaghan road network

Deputy Sean Conlan has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar TD, that the Government has approved an additional €1,420,404 for Monaghan County Council for regional and local roads. This is part of a €50 million expenditure programme for regional and local roads in 2013 announced by Minister Varadkar and aimed at improving and making our roads safer.

Deputy Conlan stated that “I am pleased that this funding has been allocated to Monaghan County Council. This additional funding is to be used primarily for surface restoration works but can also be used for safety schemes. These monies will be utilised effectively to upgrade and maintain the regional and local road network which makes up the very fabric of the Monaghan transport system”

Deputy Conlan commended Minister Varadkar for securing the much needed funds despite the financial constraints the Government must work within. Deputy Conlan noted that the approach taken to utilise the funds for maintenance works was the correct one and should help to halt any decline of the regional and local roads network.
