Deputy Sean Conlan welcomes announcement of €40,000 for Cavan-Monaghan region to combat litter and graffiti

Deputy Sean Conlan has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan TD that his department will provide €40,000 in funding for the Cavan Monaghan region under the 2013 anti-litter and anti-graffiti awareness grant scheme.

Deputy Sean Conlan stated that “The scheme will enable the Cavan and Monaghan authorities to provide support for a broad range of measures aimed at raising public awareness of the litter and graffiti issue in our local areas. A very important part of the scheme is the particular focus on voluntary initiatives involving schools, young people and community groups.”

Deputy Conlan also stated that “The work done to date in this area by local groups and authorities must be commended. According to the recently published National Litter Pollution Monitoring System Report, areas in Ireland that are completely unpolluted stand at 10.4%, the highest level achieved since monitoring began. This can only be achieved with the tireless work done by our communities to keep our towns clean and I am delighted that they will receive this €40,000 boost.”
