Dublin Taskforce’s inclusion in Programme for Government a win for capital – Geoghegan

The new programme for government includes a commitment to implement the Dublin City Centre Taskforce recommendations through the Department of Taoiseach, a Fine Gael TD has said.
Former Lord Mayor of Dublin and TD for Dublin Bay South, James Geoghegan said: “The inclusion of the Dublin Taskforce in the Programme for Government is a big win for the capital city and is essential to delivering a safe and clean city that we can all be proud of.
“The capital funding for re-generating some of Dublin’s main streets including Parnell Street, Talbot Street and Gardiner Street is essential to delivering a safe city.
“The latest Dublin Economic Monitor shows a strong economic growth in Dublin driven by employment, retail spend and private sector activity.
“We need to ensure, however, that Dublin city receives the necessary levels of public and private investment to reduce vacancy and dereliction in areas which have become a hive for illegal activity and anti-social behaviour.
“Increased garda presence in Dublin city has seen much higher levels of detections, arrests and prosecutions, but we need the multi-agency approach of the Dublin City Taskforce to deliver the level of change that is needed over the next number of years.”
