18th July 2024 - Fine Gael Press Office
Minister Paschal Donohoe been selected by Fine Gael to represent the party in the Dublin Central constituency at the next General Election.
Party members selected Minister Donohoe last night in a convention which was chaired by Minister Neale Richmond.
Fine Gael have now chosen 13 General Election candidates in nine constituencies.
Minister Donohoe said,
“I am very pleased to have been selected as the candidate to contest the upcoming General Election for Fine Gael. It has been my greatest honour to represent Dublin Central for the past twenty years, as a Councillor, a Senator, a TD and a Minister.
“The constituency has changed so much during that time, with the most notable change taking place in recent years in the North East Inner City, with the seeing up of the NEIC Taskforce; the building of Grangegorman TUD; the arrival of the Luas to Phibsborough; many new housing developments for private and social use and of course the flourishing of the Financial Services Centre.
“I have always worked as hard as I can for the people I serve and never take their support for granted. I have worked equally hard to build up the Fine Gael organisation in Dublin Central over that time. We are now in very good shape.
“The local elections across Dublin Central were very positive for Fine Gael.
“We outpolled other parties in Cabra Glasnevin and gained a second seat. In the North Inner City, we topped the poll and won the first seat. In the Fairview part of the constituency, we won more than 20% of the vote.
“So, we are going into the general election campaign on the back of a very strong local elections and we are ready for the challenges that lie ahead.
“We are now in planning mode for the years ahead, putting the building blocks in pace to build on the steady but significant progress we have made. The next step in that is holding my seat in Dublin Central, which I intend to do. I will be continuing to work day and night between now and election day to ensure that that is the case.”
