Flanagan seeks Bus Eireann report on Heywood C.S. from Minister Cannon

28th September 2012 - Charles Flanagan TD

Laois Offaly T.D. Charlie Flanagan has welcomed the decision by Minister for State at the Department of Education, Ciaran Cannon, to seek a comprehensive report on the travel arrangements for children attending Heywood C.S. Deputy Flanagan was speaking after he raised the issue with the Minister in the Dail last Tuesday.

“There is a deep sense of anger, frustration and annoyance on the part of parents who are sending their children to Heywood C.S and cannot access suitable transportation. I pointed out to the Minister that Heywood was formed as a result of forced amalgamation at the time and the school was drawn up in accordance with the catchment area of the four former schools”

“The school has already lost some pupils as a result of the changes imposed upon it and those that cannot attend are dismayed at the fact that they cannot enrol in their local school. I have asked the Minister to review this case. I am pleased that he has sought a comprehensive report from Bus Eireann on the matter and I will be meeting with the Minister to discuss the contents of this report further once he has received it”
