Funding granted to finish West Cork Arts Centre – Harrington
6th November 2014 - Fine Gael Press Office
Fine Gael Cork South West TD, Noel Harrington, has today (Thursday) welcomed the news that the West Cork Arts Centre is to receive a further €212,000 in funding to complete a fit-out of the building.
“The announcement that the West Cork Arts Centre is to receive a further €212,000 in funding to complete work on the building is really welcome. This is on top of €1.5 million of Government funding already granted for this project
“I have been working for a long time now to secure this remaining funding for the Centre and I am delighted that Minister for Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys, realises the importance of seeing this project through. The €212,000 of funding will be split between her Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and Cork County Council. I commend the Council’s commitment to this project over many years. It simply wouldn’t have happened without them.
“Aside from the obvious benefit to the artistic community, the economic benefit of this Centre to West Cork should not be underestimated. The Centre will create jobs and attract visitors to the area, which will benefit local businesses immensely.
“The West Cork Arts Centre is a wonderful resource for communities in Skibbereen and across West Cork and it is great to see this funding coming through to allow it to reach its full potential.”
