Harris hosts “Business in the Community” Initiative in the Dáil
27th May 2013 - Simon Harris TD
Wicklow Fine Gael TD, Simon Harris has hosted a “Business in the Community” initiative in the Dáil.
This initiative promotes the involvement of businesses, particularly large businesses, in the community and encourages them to get involved in supported community projects, promoting local events and contributing volunteer hours where possible.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Harris stated “I am delighted to have the opportunity to host this event. ‘Business in the Community’ is a reflection of the connection between the hardworking community projects across the country and local businesses who try to support this vital work. This kind of philanthropy should be encouraged as it demonstrates the tangible benefit that many companies bring to their areas in addition to job creation.
‘The last number of years have been extremely difficult for businesses and it is fantastic that in spite of the difficult circumstances to see that so many continue to prioritise support for local community based projects,” said Deputy Harris.
“New figures from this initiative show that in Wicklow businesses are involved in 140 different community projects and last year donated €266,746 to projects in Wicklow and also donated 2,315 volunteer hours to worthy projects. This is extremely welcome news,” continued Deputy Harris.
