Harris meets with East Wicklow Youth Service staff and service users in Arklow

20th June 2013 - Simon Harris TD

This week Wicklow Fine Gael TD, Simon Harris met with the East Wicklow Youth Service staff and with young people using their services to discuss youth work and ways in which he can assist in the promotion and development of it.

Speaking after the meeting, Deputy Harris said, “I found it really useful to meet directly with people working day in and day out with young people in County Wicklow and are providing them with so many services and programmes which are of use to them individually and to the wider community. These services provide a hugely significant outlet and I am delighted to support them.

“I particularly enjoyed my conversation with some of the young people who use youth facilities such as The Vault in Arklow and to hear from them first hand about the importance of such facilities and services to them and to offer them my support and assistance as their local TD and, most particularly, as the youngest TD in the Dáil,” stated Deputy Harris.

“We are really lucky in Wicklow to have such great youth officers and youth workers and they need and deserve our support. This Government established the first ever Department specifically for children and youth affairs and I will be bringing back the views of the youth services in Wicklow directly to Minister Fitzgerald,” concluded Deputy Harris.
