Harris welcomes 1 Million Investment in Wicklow Roads
2nd June 2013 - Simon Harris TD
Wicklow Fine Gael TD, Simon Harris, has today welcomed the announcement by Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar of an additional €1 Million for road repairs in County Wicklow on top of the allocation already given to Wicklow County Council. This additional funding is part of the Government’s stimulus effort which combines road repairs, school construction projects and energy upgrades for housing.
‘Today’s announcement is important as the funding provided is for maintenance and upgrading of roads. Wicklow roads have taken a battering over recent years with bad weather and this has resulted in the need for the improvement of surfaces and I hope that this funding will address this and also help reduce the number of incidents on Wicklow roads by ensuring safer surfaces.
‘Wicklow County Council is the body responsible under law for the upkeep and maintenance of regional and local roads. The Government has granted this supplement to the Local Authority and I hope and expect that Wicklow County Council will target this funding at areas in the county in greatest need.
“This good news for local Wicklow roads follows on from the turning of the sod on the major upgrade of the N11 last week. It all augurs well for the future of our county’s infrastructure.
‘This Government has acknowledged the needs of Wicklow and is working hard to ensure that important projects are delivered in Wicklow
