Harris Welcomes Maternity Hospital Move
28th May 2013 - Simon Harris TD
Wicklow Fine Gael TD, Simon Harris, has today welcomed the plans to move the National Maternity Hospital to the St. Vincent’s Hospital site.
Deputy Harris stated ‘The movement of the National Maternity Hospital to the St. Vincent’s site is a very welcome move. Over the last number of weeks we have heard of the lack of access of all maternity hospitals to the acute care units available in adult hospitals. This move will allow the National Maternity Hospital quick access to acute service. The new hospital will provide for the following national specialties and expertise: National Neo-Natal Transfer Service, Foetal Medicine, Urogynaecology, Gynaeoncology, Neonatology, Colposcopy, Complex gynaecology surgery & Infertility and Genetics. Also the other facilities that will now be available will include Early pregnancy assessment unit, Emergency Assessment Area, Day Services, Outpatients, Radiology & Ultra sound and x ray facilities.
‘The provision of these additional facilities is a vital change that will provide enhanced care for Irish children and mothers into the future. I eagerly await the completion of this project which will be a significant boost to the facilities available for newborn children and mothers in Ireland.
