Have your say on safety at sea – Harrington
9th June 2014 - Fine Gael Press Office
Fine Gael Cork South West TD, Noel Harrington, has welcomed the publication of the Government’s Maritime Safety Consultation Document and urged all interested parties to make their views known.
“The Government’s Maritime Safety Strategy Consultation document has been published, and is now available to view on the website of the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.
“The Government is now calling for submissions to the consultation document and I urge all people interested in this matter to make their views known. The document deals with maritime safety across a wide range of areas and includes fishing, passenger and cargo vessels. It also deals with recreational and leisure sailing.
“Maritime safety is an issue of great importance on an island nation such as ours. I know how seriously it is taken by the people in my own area of West Cork. Far too often we have seen families torn apart by a tragedy at sea.
“I urge people who live by the sea or depend on the sea for their livelihood to have their say on this important matter that affects their whole community. You can access the document at http://www.dttas.ie/maritime/publications/english/maritime-safety-strategy and full details of how to make a submission are contained within the document. Submissions will be accepted up until Friday the 29th of August.”
