Heather Humphreys takes Presidential campaign to Waterford

Presidential candidate, Heather Humphreys, visited Waterford today (Friday) as part of her campaign.

Heather visited Dunhill Ecopark where she spoke to small businesses and highlighted the importance of remote working.

As Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather prioritised initiatives to make remote working more accessible and attractive for thousands of people. She supported Dunhill under the Connected Hubs Scheme during her term.

She said: “I am so impressed at the small businesses I have met in Waterford today. As Minister I supported Dunhill Ecopark through the Connected Hubs Scheme and it’s really great to see the fruits of their labour here.”

Heather then spoke to a group of local community and voluntary organisations and social enterprises and had lunch in the community cafe.

“Volunteers are the glue that holds communities together and if elected President I will recognise and highlight the great work they do. I want to celebrate the unsung heroes all over the country.

“I am putting myself before the people on the basis that I am a centre ground, common sense, pro-European candidate.

“The Presidency is above party politics, and I am asking voters to place their trust in me so that I can bring my experience to the role of President.

“I served in Cabinet for 10 years; overseeing the successful 1916 Commemorations; supporting businesses through Brexit and the pandemic; rolling out Hot School Meals to young children across the country; enhancing supports for our pensioners; and investing in local communities.

“Throughout my career I have always worked constructively with people and parties from across the political spectrum. I have served in Government at different times alongside Fianna Fáil, the Labour party, the Green party and Independents. During my time on Monaghan County Council, I worked alongside members of Sinn Féin for the benefit of our local area. I have always worked in a spirit of cooperation with everybody on all political sides and I would bring that same ethos to the Presidency.

“I won’t let our country down and I will represent Ireland with pride diplomatically and culturally at home and on the world stage.”
