Heather Humphreys takes Presidential canvass to Carlow
23rd September 2025 - Fine Gael Press Office
Presidential Election Candidate, Heather Humphreys today (Tuesday) visited the Forge Hen Shed in Carlow to meet with local women and discuss the services provided for the community.
The new Women’s Shed in Carlow Town was established last year with women of all ages from 20 up to 80 taking part in their activities.
Speaking on the visit, Heather said: “When I was Minister for Community Development, I introduced a new funding stream under the Community Enhancement Programme specifically to support Women’s Sheds, ICA Groups & other women’s organisations across the country.
“The Women’s Shed is a wonderful initiative and as President I want to promote it and support to grow and thrive in communities across the country.”
Heather also visited the site of the new Tullow Road Community Hub in Carlow.
Last year, Carlow was one of 12 areas to be chosen to receive funding for a new community centre.
Heather – then Minister for Rural and Community Development – ensured the Tullow Road Community Hub in Carlow town received over €4million in funding to deliver the long-awaited project.
It was the first time a dedicated fund has been set up to deliver new-build community centres.
Speaking at the Tullow Road site today Heather said,” I was delighted to support this project as Minister and it’s great to see the work underway.
“The local community are looking forward to benefiting from what will be a fantastic facility when it opens towards the end of next year.”
