Heather Humphreys takes Presidential canvass to Kerry

Presidential Election Candidate, Heather Humphreys today (Friday) visited Kerry as part of her Presidential election campaign.

Heather began her visit by sitting down with Jerry O’Sullivan at Radio Kerry studios in Killarney where she chatted to Jerry about how the campaign has been going so far.

After this, she stopped off at the Ha-Ha to take a quick trip on one of Killarney’s famous Jaunting Cars.

Next stop was a quick coffee at Luna Café before heading to Muckross House where she was greeted by Minister Michael Healy Rae, who gave Heather his full backing, pointing to her ability and proven experience, saying “she is the best placed person to become the next President of Ireland”.

Heather also met with Shane Treacy, Manager, and the Trustees at Muckross House.

Speaking at Muckross House, Heather said:

“I was delighted when I was Minister for Culture to support Muckross House as well as the major refurbishment of Killarney House. These amenities along with the stunning National Park make Killarney a jewel in the crown for Ireland’s Tourism Industry.

“I was pleased to also have the opportunity to speak with members of the Killarney Chamber of Commerce. I believe the President can play an important role in terms of opening doors for Irish business overseas as well as promoting our tourism sector. I was proud as Minister for Arts to work to ensure that Star Wars filming could take place on Skellig Michael which was a huge boost to the local tourism sector in Kerry. I want to use the Presidency to identify more opportunities like that for our country.”

Heather also visited St Francis Special School in Beaufort where she met with Principal Colin O’Sullivan and the students.

Sean Kelly MEP also greeted Heather in Beaufort wishing her well on her campaign. Heather recalled when Sean, many years ago, was taken down to Monaghan by a friend and togged out for her home club Aghabog. Sean even received an award from the Aghabog club when they celebrated their 125th Anniversary a number of years ago.

The next stop was Tralee where Heather met with Tralee Women’s Shed. As Minister for Community Development, Heather was a keen supporter of Women’s Sheds and other women’s organisations, setting up a specific funding stream to support them under the Community Enhancement Programme.

Heather also called into Tralee Credit Union recalling her own days as a Credit Union Manager in Cootehill and praising the community and voluntary ethos of the Credit Union movement.

After that, it was on to Listowel where Heather visited the John B. Keane Statue and met with members of the Keane family.

Last stop on a busy tour of Kerry was a trip to the Listowel Races where Heather met many of the punters hoping to have a bit of luck.
