Jerry Buttimer

Jerry Buttimer was elected to Dáil Éireann in February, 2011 representing the constituency of Cork South Central. Deputy Buttimer was appointed as Chairperson of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health and Children in July 2011.  Prior to his election to Dáil Éireann, Deputy Buttimer served as a Senator, having been elected in July 2007, and was a member of Cork City Council from 2004 to 2007.

Under Deputy Buttimer’s stewardship the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health and Children held a series of meetings examining the misuse of alcohol and other drugs. This process culminated in the publication of a report which detailed a series of recommendations for tackling these complex issues. Deputy Buttimer has also led the Committee’s consultation process on the Children First Bill which puts in place a statutory framework to protect children and combat child abuse and neglect.

Outside of representative politics Deputy Buttimer is actively involved in his local community and the GAA. Deputy Buttimer served on the GAA National Marketing Committee, as well as holding the position of Chairman of his local Bishopstown GAA Club.
