Keenans must be kept open for the sake of workers and the south Carlow economy – Deering
13th April 2016 - Fine Gael Press Office
Fine Gael TD for Carlow/Kilkenny, Pat Deering, has expressed regret at the appointment of receivers to Richard Keenan & Co, in Borris. Deputy Deering highlighted the importance of keeping Keenans in operation for the good of the south Carlow economy.
“I was very sorry to hear that joint receivers have been appointed to Richard Keenan & Co. in Borris.
“It is good news however that the business will be operated by the receivers over the short term, trading as Keenan System. I am informed that advanced discussions are underway to sell the business to Alltech and that the negotiations are at an advanced but delicate stage.
“I wish to stress the importance of keeping Keenan System going for the 200 plus employees, 176 of which work in Ireland, as well as for the whole rural south Carlow economy to which this business has been so integral.
“The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, and Enterprise Ireland are closely monitoring the situation. I wish everyone involved in the negotiations all the best with their efforts and I am hoping for a satisfactory conclusion to the process.”
