Maynooth University meeting today’s and tomorrow’s skill requirements in the workplace – Durkan
18th February 2015 - Fine Gael Press Office
“Today marks a significant milestone in the development of Maynooth University as a highly modern, competitive and progressive university”, says Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Bernard Durkan. Deputy Durkan was speaking after the announcement of a €150 million development plan for Maynooth University.
“This is an exciting time for Maynooth University as it prepares to grow its enrolments by almost 20% over the next five years. The University now has an ambitious plan to build state-of-the-art academic, research and residence facilities to facilitate its expansion. Half of the €150 million will come from the European Investment Bank and the rest will be financed by the University itself.
“The President of Maynooth University, Philip Nolan, is to be particularly complimented for his commitment to stronger links between education and industry, whereby the skills and qualifications required in the workplace become readily available through a modern university.
“The future benefits for Kildare and the wider region are incalculable. Maynooth University has always had a reputation for excellence but, with the new development, current and future graduates can look forward to not only competing with others nationally and globally but to setting new standards to which others can aspire.
“The economic benefits of this fusion of thinking between education and industry will stand Ireland in good stead in the future.”
