18th March 2015 - Fine Gael Press Office
Cork based Minister for European Affairs and Data Protection, Dara Murphy, Cork North Central, (FG) TD, has welcomed today’s jobs announcement, by Cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes, adding a further jobs boost for Cork, as the company plans to create 50 jobs in the city over the next 3 years.
“The decision by Malwarebytes to develop its European, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) headquarters in Cork is very welcome and also significant, as it demonstrates how our city is developing a global reputation as a go-to base for technology. Cork is developing a reputation as the “The Southern Silicon Docklands of Europe” for high end, software companies, looking to expand operations and hire talented employees.
“Cork offers the ideal combination of: skilled IT graduates (from UCC and CIT), international connectivity through Cork airport and excellent transport infrastructure. Moreover the city is developing a reputation as the Southern Silicon Tech Valley, much like Austin, Texas in the US, which recently hosted a major Tech conference, South by SouthWest (SXSW).
“Malwarebytes will now join a growing cluster of both indigenous and multinational Technology Security companies in Cork, including: Trend Micro, McAfee and Enhance Technology, which together with big brand, large employers, like EMC and Apple computers, have considerable influence with other US technology investors, looking to expand in Europe and may now consider Cork – Silicon Docklands as their new EMEA headquarters.
“Every new job created in Cork, has a multiplier effect throughout the local economy, benefiting increased local employment in the service sector, including Cork retailers, hotels, bars & restaurants.”
