New motorway to benefit Wexford commuters – Twomey
13th July 2015 - Fine Gael Press Office
Fine Gael TD for Wexford, Liam Twomey, has welcomed the launch today (Monday) by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe TD, of the M11 Arklow to Rathnew Upgrade Scheme. The new scheme means there is now 90km of continuous motorway/dual carriageway between Dublin and Gorey.
“Today is a good news day for Wexford commuters with the launch of the M11 Arklow to Rathnew Upgrade Scheme, which provides 90km of continuous motorway/ dual carriageway between Dublin and Gorey. This will greatly ease the commute to the capital for the many Wexford people who make that journey every day.
“This scheme connects the existing Arklow Bypass with the M11 Rathnew/Ashford Bypass and consists of 16 km of dual carriageway, two interchanges at Beehive and Jack White’s Crossroads, re-alignment and/or construction of almost 5 km of single carriageway all-purpose road running parallel to the new N11 carriageway as well as five under-bridges and three over-bridges.
“In further good news, Gorey is also getting a service area meaning there will be 24 hour access to the rest and recuperation facilities needed by those travelling a longer stretch of the route, which is part of a 280km continuous dual carriageway/ motorway between Clogh and Belfast. As well as benefitting Wexford commuters, it is hoped that the upgrade of this route will also encourage more visitors to Wexford from other parts of the east coast and Northern Ireland.”
