Local Election Candidate

Electoral Area: Ardee

Louth Council

Paula Butterly

Paula was co-opted as a member of Louth County Council in February, 2021 – replacing Colm Markey, who is now MEP for Ireland North West, having replaced Mairead McGuinness, following her appointment as EU Commissioner.

She was elected as Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council for the year 2023-24.

Paula was born and grew up in Togher, Co. Louth, and lived in Italy for 22 years, returning to Ireland in 2016.  On her return, Paula enrolled her son in the local national school and enjoys actively participating in her son’s wide ranging sporting activities including GAA, football and soccer.

She is a Senior National Account Manager for a distribution company, which provides distribution, sales and marketing for grocery, healthcare and confectionary brands to Irish retail and wholesale customers.

Paula holds a degree in Management and Law, an Executive MBA and is currently completing her studies in the Barrister- at-Law degree in Kings Inns and hopes to be called to the Bar in July this year.

Her key priorities as a Councillor will be to work closely with local enterprise, develop the local villages as key remote working hubs and look to improve services and infrastructure for Mid Louth.
