Seanad recall now futile – Harris
7th August 2013 - Simon Harris TD
Fine Gael TD for Wicklow, Simon Harris, has today (Saturday) described the failed attempt by Fianna Fáíl to have the Dáil recalled next week to debate the EU regulation on organ donation as an embarrassing failure for the Party, and that continued efforts have the Seanad recall are futile and a waste of taxpayers’ money.
“Fianna Fáíl’s farcical attempt to have the Dáil recalled next week, at a cost which they themselves estimate to be €100,000 of taxpayers money, has woefully backfired as the Party failed to get the necessary 56 signatures to back its motion.
“This is a huge embarrassment for Fianna Fáíl which has had ample opportunity to debate this EU regulation on organ donation while the Dáil was in session, and I am calling on Senator Daly to immediately withdraw his motion for the Seanad to be re-called next Tuesday.
“Fianna Fáil was quite clear last week when it called for the Dáil to be reconvened when they said it was necessary to have both Houses in session in order to debate this regulation. With its failed attempt to have the Dáil recalled, why on earth would they continue with this embarrassing stunt when the Seanad has absolutely no power to do anything with this regulation?
“Micheál Martin has been waxing lyrical about how the Party is undergoing a massive transformation, but stunts like these clearly show that Fianna Fáil still has a long way to go if they are to clean up their act.”Fine Gael TD for Wicklow, Simon Harris, has today (Saturday) described the failed attempt by Fianna Fáíl to have the Dáil recalled next week to debate the EU regulation on organ donation as an embarrassing failure for the Party, and that continued efforts have the Seanad recall are futile and a waste of taxpayers’ money.
