Kevin Comiskey

Local Election Candidate

Electoral Area: Manorhamilton

Leitrim Council

Kevin Comiskey

Kevin is married to Michelle, and they have three adult children. They live in the homestead situated at Doonkelly, Fivemilebourne where Kevin has a small suckler and sheep farm.

Kevin has been involved in his community for many years, and is presently chairman of the famous O’Rourkes Table Development Company. He has held various officer roles within Dromahair IFA, also at county level and most recently as Chairman of the IFA National Sheep Committee and Vice-President of Copa-Cogea in Brussels.

“If the people put their faith in and elect me as their Councillor, I will give all my energy to working for the betterment of North Leitrim in its totality.

Some of the issues I would like to address are:

Planning – request the new County Manager to have a full review of planning laws. While appropriate, Environmental Impact Studies are important; I think Community Impact Studies are also very important. I would look for the appointment of a Planning Official to work as a liaison officer with new applicants to insure they have the strongest possible application.

Roads – While there has been great improvement in the road surface, what is growing each side of roads is extreme unsafe to road users. I will encourage Council to have a rubber duck machine with saw head and shears for cutting trees in each district. I would lobby central Government for funding for farmers to then maintain roadside hedges in an environmental scheme.

Rural Transport – Ensure that transport in rural areas is improved and increased in all areas.

Local Businesses – I will be a strong voice at Council to ensure maximum support for these businesses as they are the backbone of rural towns and villages.

Rural Development – This cannot be achieved without people firstly living in Rural Ireland. People, who in turn, support local businesses, football clubs, community groups etc. Continue with adequate funding made available for schools, community centres, playgrounds and continue the development of walking trails across Leitrim.

Housing – Young people aiming to build their own home in a rural Ireland should be able to claim a full VAT return on the cost of the build.

Farming – I will continue to work closely with farmers to ensure they get just reward for the high-quality food they produce in the one of the most environmentally friendly country in the world.
