Pat Chambers, a new candidate for Fine Gael in rural Belmullet, Co Mayo, brings a wealth of experience and commitment to his community.
- Family Roots: Married to Liz and a proud father of two, Pat understands the importance of family values. His home in Tiernaur, County Mayo, has been the backdrop of his lifelong involvement in farming.
- Community Engagement: For over two decades, Pat has been actively involved in various groups and committees. From the Burrishoole Group Water Scheme to the local Astroturf committee, and the original Great Western Greenway Committee, he has worked tirelessly to improve the local community.
- Farmers Champion: As the former Mayo representative for Hill Farmers on the IFA committee, Pat has fought for the interests of rural families. His leadership extends to the successful Mayo Mountain Sheep producer group (OLAS), where he currently serves as Chairperson. With 450 farmers producing 33,000 sheep in 2023, Pat ensures top-end prices for their high-quality produce. His passion lies in promoting Mayo lamb and other artisan foods, emphasising their unique flavours and nutritional value.
- Preserving History: In September 2021, Pat’s discovery of hidden Civil War letters added a historical dimension to our community. These letters, now displayed at the Michael Davitt Museum, have boosted tourism interest locally.
Pat’s Priorities
- Rural Farming Families: Pat will be a strong voice, representing the interests of hardworking farmers and rural families.
- Local Infrastructure: Pat aims to secure additional funds for Local Improvement Schemes (LIS). This investment will enhance local infrastructure, including roads, lighting, drainage, and hedges.
- Strong local tourism: Pat is committed to promoting the beauty of the West of Ireland and boosting tourism and visitor numbers in Mayo.
- Community Mental Health Services: Pat wants to see more, and better, community based mental health services in Co Mayo. Everybody deserves to get the support they need locally.
